New PSP! No more UMD, 16GB of internal memory, Bluetooth!

With a couple of days before the E3, has been leaked some official shots of the new PSP-4000! It will be retailed as PSP Go, and won't have the UMD reader anymore! The user will be forced to download the games from the Playstation Store (not for free, of course) even though, as rumored some weeks ago, there can be a "subscription model" to download "unlimited" games. (Of course, when you cancel the subscription, the license of the downloaded games will be revoked )

The new PSP has the Bluetooth (as you can see from the led on the right side, also visible in other official shots), and the keys are retroilluminated, as you can see in this video. The keys and the keypad comes out from a slide, as in the Sony Mylo

Moreover, it should not replace the current PSP model, as Nintendo is doing with the DS and the DSi.

Honestly, I don't like at all this new design, the keypad and the analog nub looks so awkard. And then... where is the emotion of keeping a new, shrinkwrapped game in your hands? Paying $34,90 for a download... are you kidding?

PSP - The TIFF exploit is back! PSP-3000, we are coming!

Video of the PSP 5.03 hack

Is about to be released the definitive hack for the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 series

Just a few weeks ago, it has been found another bug in the TIFF library that allowed to unsigned code to be run.

If you have a PSP-1000 or a PSP-2000 series you can try it, with any firmware version (even unmodified ones), up to 5.03.

Downlod the file from qj.net, and, if you have a PSP-1000, copy phat.tiff in the photo folder; if you have a PSP-2000, copy slim.tiff. (don't copy both). Then, copy h.bin in the memory stick root, and go to open the image from the XMB

Until now, it was just a "proof of concept"... but the Team Typhoon is about to release an HEN (Homebrew ENabler) for ANY PSP version, PSP-3000 included. In their video, they are showing that is possible to edit the MAC address of the PSP, a permanent edit that requires kernel access.

Here is the video!

How to speed up the PSP internet browser

Have you ever tried the PSP internet browser? Slow, limited and without a decent input method, is useless. Almost every times, opening an "average" website, the browser says "Insufficient memory to open the page". This also happens with the newer PSP-2000, besides it has a double amount of RAM. Moreover, the maximum cache memory is just 2mb! 2mb is enough only for a 1998-like internet browsing experience!

But now, thanks to the Netfront Internet Browser - HighMemoryMod patch, there will not be any memory problems! This loader loads the browser without the XMB, also enabling the extra unused ram on the PSP-2000!

Look what a speed boost!!

A noticeable boost!

Minimum requirements: a PSP-1000 or a PSP-2000 with a Custom Firmware, if your PSP has an Original Sony firmware, you must find a "Pandora" battery (soon i will publish an howto about this). The newer PSP-3000 are not supported because it is impossible to install a Custom Firmware on them. Also you must have a recent version of custom firmware. It has been confirmed that on version below 3.71 will not work. How to update the custom firmware.

How to install:

  1. Download the High Memory patch (source)
  2. Extract in x:\PSP\GAME\
  3. Load the program from the menu Games\Memory Stick

This program will not touch the system files, it just makes temporary changes in the RAM, use it without fear

UPDATE: The P86 team has released a new version! (Nicer loading screen, and an exit menu)
