Groundbreaking ways to spy people

Nowadays, is possible to hide a camera everywhere... but... where? The Japaneses are expert on placing them in weird places, those are their best solutions

If you see a normal ID card like this, what will you think?

spy

In some occasions, it won't be noticed.... let's observe it closely::

spy

There is an hidden camera in the D, and, for making it looking it normal, also the other D has a "black spot" for making it look normal... smart!

4 gb of memory, is on sale for just 13000 yen

But, outside of a work place, it looks suspicious, so this is solution #2:

watch

A "quite" normal watch that...:

camera

8 Gb and for just 10000 yen, can be yours.

But, honestly, taking pictures with a watch it is quite suspect.

The best solution is this:

necktie

A normal, common necktie that...

hidden

Has an hidden camera with a 4 gb memory!!

And for taking pictures, you use the remote control, keeping the hand in your pocket, nobody will notice

remote

Also this camera is just 13000 yen... with such cheaper cameras... we should start to be diffident of anyone!

New Wii Exploit! So easy, homebrew for everyone!

The exploit has been released! Read more!

A "working title" group has discovered a new exploit to make homebrew run on the Wii!

With a "secret file" on the SD card, you can force a "maintenance mode", enabling the installation of "not-authorized channels", like the homebrew channel!

Here is the video:

Well, it's a bit weird that Bushing did not see this exploit... the "load from SD card" text will be looked suspicious...

This exploit was previously known as "bannerbomb", and there was an help request on tehskeen about reading a banner, and then running a report application; probably the exploit is a buffer overflow in the VC banners?

When will be available? According to someone, it will available just before easter... that means we just have to wait a few hours

Let's continue to talk about this in the forum

The fake Mac vs. PC price comparison from Microsoft

Hi, i am a PC, so this post should be biased... but it can't be that.

Today, on the official Microsoft Windows blog, there is a strange post:

You can save $3367 if you choose a PC instead of a Mac

What??? Ok, Macs are expensive, but, is possible that there can be a such difference? I can't believe, even if i am a Windows-fanboy

Let's see what comparison they have done:

Mac Mac Price PC PC Price Note
MacBook 999$ Dell Inspiron 15" 699$
Mac Pro 2500$ Hp d5100t 1049$ Very unfair! You cannot compare a server-grade CPU like a Xeon with a consumer-grade Core2Duo!! Moreover, the Mac pro has 2 physical CPUs
Office 2008 for Mac 149$ No Office 0$ Nothing? PC users will illegally download it?
Quicken for Mac 70$ No Quicken 0$ Quicken??? So useless!
Other software 70$ No extra software 0$ Maybe PC users will download from torrent?
5 years subscription to MobileMe 745$ No subscription 0$ Speechless...
One to One Apple Assistance 99$ No premium assistance 0$ Right...
AppleCare 249$ Standard 3 years Dell warrenty 190$ Well, it is not the same protection...
Update to iLife 09 99$ No iLife 0$ Well, if you buy a new Mac, you don't need to update iLife
Airport Extreme 180$ Normal Router 150$ Well... Macs can also work with a normal router...
Blu-ray reader from Sony 300$ Blu-ray reader from Lite-on 95$ Microsoft, are you playing the fool?
ATI Radeon HD 4870 350$ ATI Radeon HD 4870 260$ The same card, why pay more??
Mac Price (according to Microsoft) 5139$ PC Price (according to Microsoft) 2443$

Ok, Macs are more expensive, but just a few hundred dollars...

What's wrong:

  1. You cannot compare a normal Pc with a Mac Pro (will you compare a Chevrolet Aveo with a Dodge RAM??)
  2. The 5-years MobileMe subscription (why do that without an iPhone???)
  3. Mac users are buying Office for $149, Pc users does not buy Office for $680 (source)
  4. Mac users chooses all kinds of protection plans, PC users just a basic one

This is like comparing "apples" with oranges!

Why Microsoft did not add to the Mac expenses also an iPhone with a biennal AT&T contract, and an iPod, and other accessories?

Use the new iPod Shuffle as an USB thumb drive

From many years, the iPod shuffle has lost the USB connector, making it a bit unpractical to use it as a thumb drive: you have to bring back the special cable... bummer  .

So, this is an AWESOME accessory:

ipod shuffle usb

With this small adapter, the data transfer on the go is a snap, also charging with an AC-USB adapter is more practical!

Selling at $16, this is the manufacturer website.

The nice guys at Autodesk

I am sure that many readers knows Autodesk.
With their AutoCAD, they monopolized the CAD market, also using tactics like "buy-competitors-and-close-them". Every year they do a new version of AutoCAD, with invisible differences between them, except for the save file format, designed to be not retro-compatible. The update price it is a great deal, just 780 euro (source). Moreover, if you have a full version, you are practically forced to buy an update every 2 years, otherwise you won't be entitled to get the "discount" on the update.

Then, AutoCAD is not available on Macs, because, the price is just 5640 euro for a single-user licence, it is not worthy to do a Mac version: if you can pay 5640 for a license, you can buy a dedicated PC. However, they have several versions of AutoCAD on sale, mechanical, architectural, but the main versions are two:

  • "Full" AutoCAD, just for 5640 euro (source)
  • Autocad LT, a "light" version, for this reason it is sold for the bargain price of just 1581 euro (source)

The differences between the two AutoCAD are:

  1. 4059 euro on the price tag
  2. 3d drawings creation
  3. Inserting images

So, since for the 3d graphics, there are better softwares, like 3ds max (still bought from Autodesk) o the free Google Sketchup, the only true difference is the possibility to insert images! Yes, you didn't misunderstood! A 2009 software, sold for 1581 euro, cannot import images! Even the most freeware of the freewares, or the most outdated of the WYSIWYG editors can insert images! Even MacWrite from 1984 could handled images.

So, a German firm had an idea: LT Extender, a plugin for Autocad LT, that enabled an "insert images" option  . This plugin was on sale from 2002, and was sold as an "authorized plugin". Of course it had some success .

Recently, since i own a genuine license of AutoCAD, i received an e-mail from Autodesk (click here to read), that, briefly says:

  1. They sued the programmer of LT Extender
  2. They won and they also got the customers portfolio of the German firm
  3. If you bought LT Extender, and they can prove it, you have 60 days to pay 4338 euro and buying a full AutoCAD version with a 30% discount, otherwise they will sue you for copyright violation

Really!!! It says: (in Italian; i cannot find the Legalese text in English, translating in Plain English is senseless)

Weird!! Why sue the customer??? I agree that Autodesk is entitled to a compensation from LT Extender, but why the customer, that has gave to Autodesk 1581 euro + 780 euro every year for updates, must pay a compensation????

Segway + General Motors = P.U.M.A.

What happens if the revolutionary (but expensive) Segway does an alliance with General Motors?

Segway, a company that have some economic problems for its (ex)revolutionary vehicle that had to revolute the urban traffic, but failed except for a sporadic use from governments.

A strange hybrid is born:

puma

Wow, it looks useful and practical, expecially in the cities. It can reach 35 mph, with a 35 miles of autonomy. Fully electric, it should cost around a third of a standard car...

puma

...it depends what General Motors is meaning with "standard car"... If a standard car is $15000, that means $5000, it is an interesting price point . But, since a "standard" segway it costs $10000, it is a bit impossible that the P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility project) will have a competitive price...

puma

Let's hope that it will not be just a concept like the motorbike The Uno

Update: here is a video:

How to detect a Conficker infection

Even if the much touted massive 1st april virus infection was not so massive, Conficker continues to spread itself.

Conficker is an auto-installing virus if you didn't installed the MS08-067 patch; knowing if you have been infected is a bit hard, because the virus does its best to hide itself.

Luckily, the Conficker Working Group, has found a simple but smart way to know if you have been infected.

In fact, the virus blocks all the connections to the antivirus company websites. In this page, we can see a table, that contains some images, hosted on "generic" websites, and antivirus company websites:

  • If you can see all the images: YAY! You are not infected
  • If you cannot see the three images at top: you have Conficker C (or higher version)
  • If you cannot see F-secure and Trend-micro logos: you have Conficker A or B
  • If you cannot see any image... your browser is set to don't show any images

How to speed up the PSP internet browser

Have you ever tried the PSP internet browser? Slow, limited and without a decent input method, is useless. Almost every times, opening an "average" website, the browser says "Insufficient memory to open the page". This also happens with the newer PSP-2000, besides it has a double amount of RAM. Moreover, the maximum cache memory is just 2mb! 2mb is enough only for a 1998-like internet browsing experience!

But now, thanks to the Netfront Internet Browser - HighMemoryMod patch, there will not be any memory problems! This loader loads the browser without the XMB, also enabling the extra unused ram on the PSP-2000!

Look what a speed boost!!

Video available in high definition, click on HQ

A noticeable boost!

Minimum requirements: a PSP-1000 or a PSP-2000 with a Custom Firmware, if your PSP has an Original Sony firmware, you must find a "Pandora" battery (soon i will publish an howto about this). The newer PSP-3000 are not supported because it is impossible to install a Custom Firmware on them. Also you must have a recent version of custom firmware. It has been confirmed that on version below 3.71 will not work. How to update the custom firmware.

How to install:

  1. Download the High Memory patch (source)
  2. Extract in x:\PSP\GAME\
  3. Load the program from the menu Games\Memory Stick

This program will not touch the system files, it just makes temporary changes in the RAM, use it without fear

UPDATE: The P86 team has released a new version! (Nicer loading screen, and an exit menu)

Wii - Marcan vs. Waninkoko: 3-1! The SD loader has come!

Video of the Wii SD loader!

How to run games from SD card!

A while ago, Marcan did a provocation to Waninkoko: coding a way to load (pirated) games from USB drives in just 6 hours.

Ha ha, Waninkoko has replied, he has coded a way to load (pirated) games from SD card in just 2 hours!

Here is the video:

But, he would not release this program. Probably this is due that his loaders use a proprietary file system (WBFS), so loading games from an SD card would be unfomfortable, requiring a switch every times. An USB loader is WAY batter! An 1TB hdd and then.. hahaha. Soon i will publish an how to on the usb loader

UPDATE: The SD loader has been released! You can download it from Waninkoko's blog.

The new anti-piracy law in Sweden cuts the internet traffic of a whopping 33%!

The new anti-piracy law in Sweden cuts the Internet traffic of a whopping 33%! Become effective on April, 1st, it already shows its effects. This new law permits to majors and their piracy enforcement teams to easily get personal data of "sharers". Swedish seems to been frightened by this, take a look to the bandwidth usage graph in Stockholm, weekly:

grafico settimanale

and the monthly one:

grafico mensile

A considerable drop in Internet traffic! Obviously, the Swedish did not stop to share on BitTorrent; according to The Pirate Bay stats, at least the 5% of the Swedish population has used BitTorrent in the last 24 hours! Most of them had chosen VPN anonymization services, that are having an unexpected success.
